London Irish
« on: August 18, 2016, 02:53:35 PM »
This will be an interesting test of our pre-season and how we stand against the favourites for the upcoming season. The squad has been cut to 27 with a very similar look to the starting XV as against Newcastle.
Is anybody aware of any injuries? Neither Ben Hooper nor James Stephenson have featured as yet. I am assuming Hakalo is away on international duty. Morgan Eames? Jimmy Stevens?

Lovely night here at Hazlewood- Suns out now although it's windy. Surrounded by a sea of green...my Nottingham shirt is blending in nicely haha. Just awaiting k/o- updates to follow for anyone who wants them.

Another lengthy stoppage got another injury- it's a stretcher case unfortunately, cannot see who it is though.

Gutted for the team . Can anyone please explain why we are playing three pre season games away on a Friday with little support with big guns . How is this good for our young team .

Another thumping & 2 serious injuries were the net result of the night’s endeavours.
If it’s Olympic year then pre-season it’s the C’ney Micks down their place on a Friday night. This time at Hazelwood their relatively new training ground encompassing 7 pitches 3 with floodlights &1 artificial with a large bar & refreshment area. This had the feel of a home rather than as a tenant elsewhere.
The ref was Matthew Carley who was briefly in the Championship before moving to more rarefied pastures. 1 of the TJ’s was the ubiquitous Clare Daniels.
It was Greens V Whites with us in Green. According to the finalised team sheet it was 33 Whites v 25 Greens. The warm ups clearly demonstrated that the Whites were definitely physically bigger.
Of Notts old boys Lewington is out until the new year & the balding Tonks played at 10.
Almost from their kick off Raynor had missed a tackle & Skelcey was helped off in considerable distress after a bad blow/injury to the right knee. He later exited the scene on crutches.
Only a couple of minutes later youngster Jack Spittle who had replaced Skelcey was, after a lengthy hold up, stretchered off. Word was that he had not injured his neck as first feared, but had probably fractured his cheekbone. Was I the only Notts follower questioning the wisdom of subjecting our lads to another physical battering? This gave Calum Hall an unexpected 75+ minutes on the pitch.
Before we had made our first attack of the night we were 10-0 down to 2 tries wide on the right. Our first attack did however bring a try as Buckley bustled over in fine style. Buckley at 8 was the man to catch the eye this time always looking to take the fight to the enemy.
10-7 became 17-7 with a left wing try this time. On 34 it was 24-7 as our 2nd attack went awry after Toby had knocked on. The last action of the ½ made it 31-7.
On 47 they mauled over.
On 57 Yawavawa scored from an excellent free ball cross kick after they had infringed 2* from 5 yard throws. As previously the line out went pretty well & again we were outclassed in the scrum.
On 65 once more our defence of the maul was found wanting.
On 72 unusually for a pre- season game a prop of theirs was binned for tackling Hall nowhere near the ball after a shabby up & under by them, but their 7 men soon took another scrum pen off us .
Next up Oval Park.
Good luck in the ballot- what a farce!
